Workers’ Compensation from A to Z is a two-day seminar sponsored by the National Business Institute and hosted by expert speakers in the field of workers’ compensation law. The event will be held at the Holiday Inn Hotel of Worthington from December 5th to 6th, 2017. The seminar will provide a comprehensive overview of the handling of workers’ comp cases with special focus on topics such as case preparation and claim assessment. Navigating a workers’ compensation claim is often a complicated matter, but with the right strategies, employers can successfully handle hearings and other issues that arise during the process.
In addition to a general overview of managing workers’ comp cases, the seminar will also discuss more specific issues that can arise during a case, such as Medicare set-asides, psychological conditions and aggravation of pre-exisiting conditions.
One of the primary strategies for a successful workers’ compensation defense is to gain knowledge of how the other side plans to prepare their case. The seminar’s speakers will cover topics such as assessing claim value, case preparation, determining if injured workers are receiving appropriate compensation, and learning how to handle intoxication defenses.
This seminar will cover a range of topics at the basic-to-intermediate level of workers’ compensation understanding. The target audience for these topics includes human resources professionals, attorneys, workers’ compensation administrators and other in-house legal professionals.
The seminar will begin on December 5th at 9 a.m. with an overview of Key Concepts and Issues within workers’ comp by Benjamin W. Crider. The following workshop presented by Jacob Dobres will discuss how to navigate the procedures and forms involved in workers’ compensation claims. Other first-day workshops include Calculating the Value of a Claim with Paulette Ivan and Strategies for Workers’ Compensation Hearings.
Second-day seminar topics include case law updates, hearings from a judicial point of view, settlement options, Medicare set-aside arrangements and recovery from third parties. Melissa Black will also be discussing the rules of professional conduct, contracts, attorney’s fees and lawyer liability within the context of legal ethics.
